OLD SETTLERS WEEKEND IN HIGHMORE 2007
Well it started out as a great week in Highmore it was our 125th Anniversary of the town . Everyone was working hard for the past year or more getting everything just right . Wanting to make room for everyone and make it a bang up celebration. Class reunions, rodeo, demo-Derby,Midget wrestling, Pig Mud Wrestling, swimming, Dances ,Road race ,horse-shoe contest Parade. Well most of it was really great. Started out Friday Night we had the first Midget Wrestling in the pasture in front of our house. Lots of preparation and help from the relatives. It was hilarious and hopefully everyone had as much fun as I did. Then on Saturday the road race which was fun it was a 3 mile run or a 2 mile walk. We just got in and it started to rain, and rain, and rain and rain. To say the least the parade was a little wet. But that did not stop anyone. Except for the Demo-derby had to be canceled as it was under water. The Farmers Were very Happy though. Sunday they were able to have the Pig Mud Wrestling and may I add it was truly very nice MUD.... ??? Or was It???? Our team of Mutt and Jeff and Jeff. or the little Pork Chops I guess it was the Short Ribs and we placed 3rd. Competing with those kids is tough . Next year there will be a 50 and over division.

OUR GREAT SOUTH DAKOTA HOME "ITS ALL ABOUT FAMILY"

Here is where we live and some of the things we do. Everything is a family affair here. Kutz Construction is run by Royal(Shorty) Kutz. His son my husband works for him as well and my son Matt full time and Adam when he is home in the
summer from college. They build homes ,remodel and lots of cement work. They also have 2 other men full time and summer help.
Steve , myself and his folks and my parents (now gone)all grew up in Highmore, SD a small town of only 800 . It is 50 miles East of the State capitol of Pierre, SD.
It is a place you never take your keys out of your car. No need to lock your doors. The kids can ride their bike and play without adult supervision. We still play hide and seek. And swing on a rope in the Hay Mow.
When giving directions you never give an address you tell whos house to turn at. And if you dial a wrong number you do talk for 15 minuites or more.
We have a great school and community and our kids get a great education. Most do go on to college and come back. Some move away but come back later. We do have lots of people now seeing what a great place to retire. Close to hunting ,fishing not far from the Black Hills . If you are an outdoor person it is the best place to be.
Our Oldest Matt also does Taxidermy in the winter months.
Adam our youngest is attending college at Vermillion, SD.
